How hot is the Caloro pepper?
Caloro is a mild-to-medium yellow chile, around 500-2,500 Scoville units. It has a crisp, tangy flavor often used for pickling.
What does the Caloro pepper look like?
Caloro produces conical, waxy peppers about 3-4 inches long that ripen from pale yellow to orange-red. It is closely related to the Santa Fe Grande type.
When and how do I start Caloro seeds?
Sow indoors 8-10 weeks before last frost, 1/4 inch deep in soil kept at 75-85F. Move seedlings outdoors after all frost danger passes and nights are warm.
How long until Caloro peppers mature?
Caloro is fairly quick, ready in about 65-75 days from transplant. Pick them yellow for milder flavor or leave them to redden for a bit more sweetness and heat.
What sun and spacing do these need?
Grow Caloro in full sun with plants spaced 18-24 inches apart. They thrive in warm weather and well-drained soil and do well in USDA zones 4-11 as summer annuals.
How many seeds are included?
Each packet contains about 80 Caloro seeds. They are heirloom, non-GMO and great for pickling projects.
