Excellent Germination

I grow all kinds of lettuce, tomato, and eggplant hydroponically. Tried these seeds and had 100% germination so far. With limited space, I can only keep one germination of each kind I grow. Because you get so many seeds, they will probably last forever at the rate I use them. Very happy with the results.

A big pack of seeds! Oak leaf lettuce is delicious and grows in large bipunches that can last for more than a month. A few sprouts are an abundance of food.

Lettuce

I've been using these lettuce seeds in my indoor hydroponic system and they're awesome! Great germination rate and they Sprout quickly after an overnight soaking. The lettuce itself is delicious. The flavor is mild and slightly sweet with a great crisp texture.

Cool Weather Loosehead Lettuce that Tastes Great

This lettuce is a fast-growing loose-head and takes about 2 months to fully mature. You can either snip the outer leaves every few days or wait until you have a mature loose head of lettuce. These are robust flavored crunchy leaves, and the flavor remains mild long after other varieties have turned bitter, and it is well adapted to a large range of climates.Be aware that these prefer cooler conditions, so it is best to plant in the early spring or in early autumn, so that they are not growing in the hottest part of the season or when there is a lot of insect pressure. If you want to have a winter lettuce harvest, then it is best to plant in late-summer or early Autumn. Once established, they will tolerate a light frost and do well under covered beds.I have ordered from this brand before, and they usually include packed for dates, packaged dates, or expiration dates, but I was disappointed to discover that such information was left off this time and I have no idea how fresh these seeds may be.

Nom nom. Lettuce tastes good.

These seeds make lettuce. If that's what you are looking for, this will work. We started them in our small greenhouse and they worked pretty well. Not all of them ended up germinating, but the ones that did produced enough lettuce for our needs. The price is right and the lettuce is pretty good quality.

Great Germination

I have had nothing but good experiences with this brand, the seeds always germinate when planted according to their directions. I love the packet art and appreciate that they include basic but useful planting information on the back so that I can easily grab and go without having to whip our my phone or computer to plan my garden.

Great seed pack!

This is a great seed packet! Lots of seeds - enough to grow lettuce all winter long (if I stagger the plantings!) Good quality seeds and love that they are non-GMO!

viable seeds

Oakleaf lettuce is often said to have some heat tolerance making them a good choice for summer growing. I find it also thrives in fall and spring becoming sweeter and more succulent. This packet of seeds come well-sealed. There are a lot of seeds, sufficient for many sowings. I put a few on a damp paper towel - there was good germination after a few days.

Good germination rate

I like oakleaf lettuce because the taste remains mild for a long time. It is a bit late in the season to start lettuce outside here. Therefore, I started some of the seeds in my AeroGarden and am pleased with the germination rate. 3 out of 4 pods have already fully germinated and the last one seems to start. I added other salad seeds in the remaining pods to compare the germination ratio and speed and the Organo Republic Oakleaf Seeds are on par with them. There are plenty of seeds left to reseed multiple times during the fall and winter and grow them outside in the spring.

Over 800 Oakleaf Lettuce Seeds, Heirloom and Non-GMO

The heirloom oakleaf lettuce seeds come with over 800 seeds. I got these to use in my outdoor hydroponics growing system bucket tower. The packets come with the information you need to grow them on the back and all the seeds I have tried from this company have germinated quickly, so very confident these will do well too. I look forward to planting these once it cools down a bit and would recommend highly . Thank you!

Nice frilly lettuce for salads

I try to grow at least one lettuce every year in the autumn and spring. Oakleaf lettuce is a nice frilly lettuce that adds some volume and fluff to salads. The bigger leaves work well as a wrapper for some foods too.For lettuce greens, home gardeners get the benefit of being able to use the cut and grow method, where you cut off leaves on the sides and let the center leaves grow. This helps the lettuce continue growing and extends the growing season so they don't have to cut the entire head to use it. It works even better when you stagger out the plantings so they're at different stages of growth.I sprouted a few seeds to check germination, and it did quite well. I tend to have to thin lettuce, but there's so many little seeds that it's not that big of a deal.

Good brand

The brand I can rely on. I found this brand a few years ago and so far I ca not complain. There are a lot of seeds about 1000 in a 1 gram /0.035 oz.All of the seed are healthy and approximately 90% germinate which is not bad. Most of the time I I sow in 2 or even 3 season and the seeds are still good.

Trying "Indoor Gardening" this winter -- and these are my first crop choice.

We eat a lot of salads. For the first time, this year we grew some lettuce in pots on our patio, and it did well, and we liked being able to go out and cut a bowlful of lettuce. So, we are bringing it indoors for the winter, and will be adding this large-leafed lettuce to the mix. Since they supposedly like cooler weather, having them indoors at 70 degrees or so should be good for them. We'll have several pots, with and without supplemental sunlamps for extra light. We're also doing the same with the summer lettuce and some cress -- maybe we won't have to buy too much salad over the winter! And there's enough seeds that, if it does well over the winter, we'll still have enough to plant outdoors in the spring!

Heirloom Lettuce

I had hoped to plant this lettuce before the weather turned too chilly; however, the seed packet didn't arrive in time for that. So I've changed up my plans and will plant some of the seeds on a sunny windowsill.I like that the seeds are non-GMO Heirloom seeds. I don't yet know if I'll have trouble germinating the seeds. If they don't grow, I'll come back and offer an update. But if you don't see an update, then you can rest assured that the seeds grew and I enjoyed my homegrown lettuce! :)

Germinates between 35 and 65 degrees F.

Great instructions. It says that they need to be "hardened off" -- started indoors and slowly expose them to the outside elements before transplanted. They will not germinate over 65 degrees F.My pack says 1050 seeds.

About Lettuce Oakleaf Green Seeds

Oakleaf Green lettuce (Lactuca sativa) is a tender loose-leaf variety with distinctive lobed, oak-shaped leaves and a mild, buttery flavor. These Oakleaf lettuce seeds grow soft, ruffled rosettes that are slow to turn bitter and endlessly harvestable. It is one of the most forgiving and productive lettuces you can plant.

Who it's for

Perfect for gardeners who want a steady, cut-and-come-again supply of tender leaves, and for cooks who like a soft, mild lettuce for everyday salads.

How & when to plant

Direct sow 2-4 weeks before your last spring frost, or start indoors 4 weeks earlier. Sow 1/4 inch deep and thin to 6-10 inches apart. Oakleaf likes full sun to part shade and cool weather, growing well in USDA zones 4-9. Sow in succession every 2-3 weeks for continuous harvests.

Harvest

Baby leaves are ready in about 30 days, full plants in 45-55 days. Pick outer leaves as needed and the plant will keep producing, or cut the whole rosette at the base. It resists bolting well for a loose-leaf type.

Benefits & uses

The tender, ruffled leaves are ideal for mixed salads and add nice texture to sandwiches and wraps.

Frequently asked questions

Why is it called Oakleaf?
The leaves are deeply lobed in a shape that resembles oak leaves.

Is it a cut-and-come-again lettuce?
Yes. Pick the outer leaves regularly and the plant will keep producing new growth for weeks.

Does it bolt quickly?
It is fairly slow to bolt for a loose-leaf lettuce, but grows best in cool weather with steady water.

FAQ

Green Oakleaf is a loose-leaf lettuce with tender, lobed leaves shaped like oak leaves. It has a mild, sweet flavor and is one of the most heat- and bolt-tolerant leaf lettuces.
Sow in early spring and again in late summer for fall, though its heat tolerance lets you stretch the season a bit longer than many lettuces. Sow every 2–3 weeks for a continuous supply.
Baby leaves are ready in about 30 days and full plants in 45–55 days. Because it is loose-leaf, you can start picking outer leaves very early.
Use the cut-and-come-again method: snip outer leaves an inch above the crown and let the center keep growing. This gives you repeat harvests from each plant.
Space plants 6–8 inches apart in rows about 12 inches apart, or grow more densely if harvesting only as baby leaves.
Yes, Oakleaf is an old open-pollinated heirloom and these seeds are non-GMO. The packet contains about 1,050 seeds.
