Zinnia Mix
CHOOSE THE SEASON
Zinnias need to be started after the last frost date. They should be planted when soil temperatures have reached at least 60°F (15.5°C).
Note: During extremely hot & dry months, watering may be required to keep the soil from drying out and the seedling from dying.
CHOOSE THE RIGHT SPOT
Choose an area with easy access to water, good drainage, and at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
PREPARE THE SOIL
- Remove debris and existing plants.
- Even out the surface (recommended).
- Rake the surface at least 3 inches deep to aerate the soil.
- Incorporate compost or a slow-release fertilizer.
BROADCAST THE SEEDS
Spread zinnia seeds evenly over the area.
Note: Do not overcrowd seeds (1oz of seeds will cover up to 600-625 sq ft.)
CREATE THE RIGHT SEEDS TO SOIL CONTACT
- Lightly rake over the planting area.
- Pat down lightly.
- Ensure seeds are not deeper than ¼ inch.
Note: Do not plant seeds too deep. Zinnias need sunlight to germinate.
WATER THE AREA
Keep seeds moist for 5-10 days for proper germination, but do not overwater the area.
Note: Water balance is very important. Do not flood the area and make sure it does not dry out.
