How & when to plant

Growing & care

Plant in full sun with rich, well-drained soil and keep the roots cool with mulch. Give the vines netting, twiggy sticks, or a low trellis to climb, and water deeply during dry spells. Pinch young plants at 6 inches to encourage bushy growth and more flowering stems.

Harvest

Cut sweet peas every day or two, choosing stems with the lowest flower just opening. The more you cut, the longer the plants bloom. Stop cutting and let pods ripen in late season if you want to save seed. Note that sweet pea seeds and pods are ornamental only and not for eating.
