How & when to plant

Growing & care

Zinnias want full sun, warm weather, and average, well-drained soil. Water at the base rather than over the leaves to discourage mildew, and give plants good air circulation. Pinch young plants once for more branching, and cut or deadhead constantly; the more you cut, the more they bloom.

Harvest

Cut stems when the flower is fully open and passes the wiggle test, meaning the stem stays stiff when you shake it. Strip the lower leaves and change the vase water often for a week or more of color. Let a few heads dry on the plant if you want to save seed.
