Good Germination Rate

The box contained - 3,950 mustard Southern Giant seeds. I planted these seeds in warmer weather and had about a 90% germination rate. I am satisfied with this product.

Grows great in a hydroponic system

I ordered these initially for my garden, but decided to try a few in a homemade hydroponics system first. The seeds almost all germinated quickly and the seedlings are growing nicely. There is a huge number of seeds in this package, so I hope they will last for a few growing seasons. I also love all the information that Organo Republic puts on the package so that planting and expectations are clear to whoever is trying to grow the seeds. This is my second order from Organo Republic and so far all of the seeds have been outstanding!

A lot of seeds for a mustard green garden

Purpose for Product: Fall vegetable garden.Product Inspection: Standard seed envelope containing a whole bunch of tiny mustard seeds.Product Performance: Summer has not left our zone yet but have some seeds germinatingand will update when something happens. Promise.Update: It finally got cool enough to start planting the winter garden. Planted twelve pods withseeds. I figure that the germination rate was about 98%, totally acceptable. The photodepicts seedlings after 9 days.

Wonderful Variety and Good Quantity of Seeds

I ordered these specifically to use in a winter garden in my raised beds in Zone 7a, and I am pleased with the quantity of seed and the germination rates. These are some nice cold resistant greens that are doing very well under frost cloth and that also do well in early Spring and late Fall (they just don’t like hot summer as much and can easily bolt and get a bit too spicy in the heat). This variety does well in a covered winter garden, providing greens all through the winter months, and I am glad that the provided seeds are Non-GMO Heirloom Varieties, and grown in the USA, but be aware that they are not certified Organic.I have ordered from this brand before, and they usually include packed for dates, packaged dates, or expiration dates, but I was disappointed to discover that such information was left off this time and I have no idea how fresh these seeds may be.These are still great seeds that will ensure a successful garden.

Viable seeds

I sowed these in a raised bed and I got a ton of sprouts and they looked great for a short while but unfortunately environmental conditions changed and ended up killing them all. Unfortunate, but no fault of the seed or seed company. I'll just have to order more. They had a great germination rate and viability. Hopefully I will have better luck with the weather next time.

Mustard seeds

Good seeds, we're easy to germinate and grow under lights inside over the winter to provide a little snap to my salads. Nice and spicy!

good germination rate ~

The germination rate is pretty good. I planted the seeds, and the harvest from the mustard was quite good. The growth was steady and healthy. The mustard seeds' genetics seem quite good. The taste of the mustard is flavorful and works well in my salads. It was relatively easy to grow. There are plenty of seeds in the packet. I was able to grow a lot of mustard from just one packet.

Great amout of seeds

Unfortunately, it's past growing season in my climate, so I can't comment on germination rate, however, I have no doubt that these will germinate well, as they are about the freshest looking mustard seeds that I have seen. You get a very large amount that will be more than sufficient for planting a huge patch of mustard greens, and then some. This is an interesting variety of mustard that I have not seen locally, and I'm willing to pay more for these heirloom varieties to be able to grow something that is not just the standard stuff. You do get good value for the price in these though because there are a lot of seeds. I'm excited to try these next season, as saag is one of my go-to meals and mustards make a more flavorful saag than other greens alone.

A lot of seeds

This is a good packet of seeds. You can feel that the packet is half full before even opening it. So tired these days of getting seed packets and having to hunt in the bottom to find the small number of seeds. Mustard is great for planting in the fall and harvesting continuously throughout the cold months.

Sprouted within a few days

These seeds seem fine. It's never easy to know until the plants mature and we can taste the leaves, if we'll like them. I ordered these for two purposes, though--one is that mustard can make a good cover crop for winter in a mild, mid-Atlantic climate and the other is that if the plants mature well without being eaten by bugs, mustard is delicious to eat. So far this is one of the more successful garden plant products I've ordered from Amazon, although there is still a while to know how it will turn out. But the fair test is that these did sprout quickly and now it's up to me! Even if the taste isn't my favorite in the end, mustard has good vitamins. Be sure to water new seeds well and plant more than you need, then thin and use the sprouts in a salad.

Southern Giant Mustard Seeds, Lots of Seeds & Perfect for Hydroponics Grow Systems

I am so looking forward to growing these Mustard, southern giant seeds. One of my favorites and also one that was on the dirty dozen list this year, so growing my own is definitely the way for me to go. You get a lot of seeds in this packet, 5 grams worth, almost 4000 seeds! I have plenty of seeds to do a little micro green patch and get some starters ready to go in my grow system. I would recommend highly, very happy with my order. Thank you!

Lots of seeds

I’ve being using this brand for some time and I am pretty satisfied. I have to saysapproximately 80- 90% germinate which is not bad. Mustard seeds should be sow pretty sparsely to have a healthy, rather big green leaves.

Works as a spicy lettuce alternative

I've grown leaf mustards before, but have not tried this particular heirloom ("Southern Giant"). From the name, I would expect the leaves to be quite large. I use leaf mustards as a lettuce alternative. It looks and functions mostly like lettuce, but it has a little spiciness to it. I like it sometimes.I tried sprouting some seeds. It's only been 5 days, but I can already see some roots popping out, so I can confirm that the seeds I received are viable. They're not at a point where I can comment on their flavor or growth habit, but I'm going to assume that they are indeed the correct heirloom variety.

Jen
A good amount of seeds

The seeds are well-sealed in the way you'd expect. They didn't clump, sprout, or have any discoloration. These are small seeds, so there is a good amount included. The planting, growing, and harvesting information was included and easy to read and follow. I followed the recommendation to soak the seeds per the method I was using, and it worked well. The vast majority of the seeds are healthy. They aren't ready to harvest yet, but I'm looking forward to reporting back as they grow.

seems like a good company

I've always wanted to grow mustard plants - I love the pungent taste of mustard greens. This packet of seeds is just what I need - from a reputable company, as far as I can tell. Very good information on the seed packet. Still too warm where I live, but will be starting the seeding process soon. Will update!

This is a lot of seeds

I haven't planted these yet, They are going to be part of my micro greens mini garden over winter. I love the spicy peppery flavor of mustard greens and am excited to add this to my mix. The seeds all look well formed and there are a LOT of them.

Ample Supply of Mustard Seeds

This little packet is deceptive--despite its size, it houses a great many mustard seeds. I have planted mustard for many years and have bought seeds regularly. These are by far the best looking mustard seeds I have purchased. It is really not the right time where I live to plant the seeds, so I will hold them for a more optimal planting period. I will report back when I do so. However, until then, i am pretty confident that they are among the best I have bought. You also get plenty of seeds so you can do a major planting all at once or do a spaced planting that allows for a longer harvest. Give them a shot if you like mustard greens.

Grow Fast, Zesty Greens from Heirloom, Non-GMO Southern Giant Mustard Seeds

Southern Giant Curled mustard brings bold, peppery flavor to the garden in a hurry. Our heirloom Southern Giant mustard seeds (Brassica juncea) grow into large plants with frilly, bright green leaves that carry a lively horseradish-like bite. Quick, cold hardy, and productive, mustard greens are a Southern staple and a fast, satisfying crop for cool-season gardens.

Who it's for

Ideal for beginners and anyone who loves greens with a kick. Mustard is one of the fastest, easiest leafy crops you can grow, ready in just a few weeks, so it suits impatient gardeners and small spaces, and it thrives in the cool weather of spring and fall.

How & when to plant

Sow mustard seeds directly in cool weather, in early spring or fall, planting them about a quarter to half an inch deep. They sprout fast, in about 5 to 10 days. Grow mustard in full sun to part shade, thinning or spacing plants about 6 to 12 inches apart, and sow a fresh row every few weeks for a steady supply.

Growing & care

Mustard likes cool weather and steady moisture, which keep the leaves tender and their flavor balanced; heat and dryness make them sharper and cause bolting. Give it even water and pick young for milder greens. It is quick enough to grow between slower vegetables.

Harvest

Start cutting the outer leaves once they are a few inches long, usually around 40 to 50 days, or pick whole young plants. Younger leaves are milder and good raw, while mature leaves are spicier and best cooked. Harvest regularly for the freshest flavor.

Benefits & uses

Southern Giant mustard is as versatile as it is zesty. Braise or saute the greens in the Southern style, add them to soups and stir-fries, or use the tender young leaves raw to add a peppery lift to salads and sandwiches. Bold, fast, and full of flavor.

Why gardeners grow our mustard seed

Our Southern Giant mustard seed is heirloom, non-GMO, and untreated, chosen for strong germination and packed fresh by a licensed seed dealer based in the USA. Grow fast, zesty greens and save seed from your best plants. Choose the pack size that fits your garden and get sowing.

Growing guide: New to this variety? Read our full guide, How to Grow Mustard Greens From Seed, for step by step sowing, spacing, and harvest tips.
