Orange Horizon is a sweet bell pepper bred to ripen a vivid, glossy orange earlier than many colored bells. These Capsicum annuum plants produce blocky, thick-walled fruits that shift from green to brilliant orange, packed with sweet, juicy flavor. Grow these Orange Horizon bell pepper seeds for dependable color and sweetness in a shorter season.

Who it's for

Great for gardeners in cooler or shorter-season areas who want fully colored bells, and for cooks who love sweet orange peppers fresh or roasted.

How & when to plant

Start indoors 8–10 weeks before your last frost, sowing 1/4 inch deep in warm soil (70–85°F). Transplant after nights stay above 55°F, spacing 18–24 inches apart in full sun. Grows in USDA zones 4–11 as a warm-season annual.

Harvest

Pick green at about 65–70 days from transplant, or wait roughly 2 weeks longer for fruit to color fully orange and sweeten. Cut fruit with pruners to avoid breaking stems.

Benefits & uses

Sweet and heat-free (0 Scoville), Orange Horizon adds bright color and sweetness to salads, stir-fries, roasting pans, and fresh snacking. The thick walls hold up well to cooking and freezing.

FAQ

Orange Horizon is an early-maturing sweet bell that ripens to a vivid orange. It offers full bell-pepper sweetness noticeably earlier than many varieties, making it great for shorter growing seasons.
None. These are sweet bells with thick, juicy walls and a rich, fruity sweetness when fully orange. They are excellent fresh, roasted, or added raw to salads for color.
Sow indoors 8 to 10 weeks before your last frost, 1/4 inch deep in warm soil near 80 F. Transplant out once nights stay above 55 F.
Being early, they can be picked green around 65 days from transplant, and reach full orange color in roughly 75 to 80 days. The orange stage is the sweetest.
Give them full sun and space plants 18 to 24 inches apart in rows 24 to 36 inches apart. Staking helps support the plants when they carry a heavy crop.
You get about 50 seeds per packet. Orange Horizon is open-pollinated and non-GMO, so seed saved from ripe orange fruit will grow true next year.
Yes, Orange Horizon is selected to reach full orange color relatively early, which helps in shorter seasons.
Yes, a 3–5 gallon pot in full sun works well.
