Chantenay Carrot Seeds – Royal, Non-GMO Heirloom

I am trying a lot of varieties of plants in our family garden this year. These seeds looked like great options.The Good:-I planted these carrots in patches in both a raised garden and in the soil. Both germinated in 7 days.-The germination rate in both locations was high.-It will be quite a while before I can really judge the flavor, but I will check back in if they are anything other than delicious.-The packaging of the seeds was a double thickness.The Bad:-NothingThis product meets my expectations.

Update June 2025: Have had a good season with these carrots and got a great harvest. They turned out lighter in orange color than expected but flavor was still excellent.>>>>>>It is tough to review seeds. To give these a fair shake I went ahead and put 10 seeds in a ziplock back on wet paper towel and had 90% germination which was a good start. I've gone ahead and planted a row in my raised bed garden and will be watching for germination in that setting over the next couple of weeks. With the hotter weather I expect to lose some of the sprouts that pop up but my trick to help carrot seeds germinate is to use a board over the top of them to keep it moist. Then as they sprout up slowly introduce them to the sun with a small strip of cloth to help shade them before finally letting them get full sun.It'll be later in the fall for harvest so I'll try to remember and come back to update the review at that stage.

The directions on how and when to plant was all on the back of the seed packet. It included a diagram of the US showing when you should plant the seeds for your area.I used several of the seeds for the outdoor garden. Since I was limited on space in my outdoor garden I am saving the rest for growing microgreens (I will be planting those next week). I’ve never grown carrot microgreens but it looks like they are very easy to grow and can harvest in about 3-4 weeks. I’m sure the outdoor carrots will do well so I’m really looking forward to having some fresh homegrown carrots this summer.

Update: looking good!! They are sproutingI do not live in the area it says. I live in Las Vegas area in the desert, however, the carrots in my garden usually do pretty good. As soon as these sprout I will post pictures and let you know!

I'm excited to see how these carrots grow. The seeds seem to be good quality. If I run into any issues, I'll update this review.

Plentiful pack of Royal Chentenay carrot seeds - these carrots are short and stubby and have the traditional orange color. It takes them about 2-2.5 months till maturity - they can be eaten fresh and the taste has been described as sweet. Watch for over-ripening as they can become coarse. Good value - stagger plantings and you can have carrots through late summer.

So far so good, grew fairly quick. Easy to use and hoping for good harvest. Tasted good when I tried the small ones I thinned out. I’m thinking this variety might be good for the raised bed since it looks like a shorter root. Keep them watered.

I love this brand and that they offer so many non GMO products. The seeds are easy to plant and have directions on distance and depth.

I had planted other carrot seeds but got a big zero percent germination on those - planted these in the same area in the same way & they shot up like crazy! i am so glad we'll get to have carrots this season after all! I can't speak to flavor or end performance yet, but on germination alone they definitely deserve the full 5 stars

Haven't harvested yet, but we went direct sow after a brief soak, and germination seems to have been good.Can't wait for the first harvest, as we've had great luck with Organo Republic seeds in the past, and our family does love carrots.

This is a nice big packet of seeds. Compared to other similarly priced options, this one clearly had the most seeds. I didn’t germination test to see what % germinated, but I definitely see carrot seedlings coming up so they definitely work. Good deal.

These are growing like crazy. Didn't take long for them to start coming up.

They sprouted at about 85%. The seed packet was sealed well. Info on packet is very informing.

I'm one of those new to gardening types... We've got 2 acres of land an the back third of it pretty much just sits there. Since it's former farm land anyways, I figured I'd till up some of the area and see about growing some of our own food.Having read a few books on the subject I tested these with wet paper towels and got a great germination rate. Admittedly I did then just go direct to the ground vs starting them inside. Being my first time planting carrots I was surprised by how small the seeds are. Spacing, etc is all spelled out on the seed pack so that makes it easy. One thing to note is to pay attention to the variety of this carrot. It's not going to be as long as some other varieties so don't expect to pull crazy long carrots out of your garden.

I’ve had this variety of carrot before and I really like it. Carrots never seem to grow deep in my garden, so having a variety that is meant to be short and stubby gives me good results – usually. However, I planted these on the day I got them and I was hoping for some better germination by now. I’ve had less than typical with carrots. Maybe I didn’t attend to things as well as I should have, but in the same bed, strawberry spinach and wild purslane (the wonderful “weed” you should be sautéing as it’s delicious and nutritious) have all germinated heavily in the same time period. Still, Organo Republic seeds have typically done well, so I’m only taking off one star for my troubles.

Inexperienced gardener here just getting started in this hobby and wanted to try growing some carrots. Says 850 seeds...I'm not counting them lol, but sure there's probably that many in here. I can't comment on the germination rate here, but I am hopeful.

I try to include as many heirloom plants as possible in my garden, so when I saw this pack of 850 carrot seeds, I knew I had to try them. The package is perfect for saving the leftover seeds that I will inevitably have. The variety is new to me... it produces short, fat carrots that look to be perfect for growing in my Greenstalk and other container plantings. It is too soon to report on germination rates... but if I find any issues with that I will update this review. I'm looking forward to a garden full of yummy carrots this year!

I am looking forward to trying this variety of carrots that I planted this year. I believe that 850 seeds are more than enough for a family of three so I will save some for the next planting season. I haven’t tried Heirloom before so am really looking forward to it.

One may think that 850 seeds are not enough but that is plenty for me. I only need to plant 30 per person. That will give me plenty to use next season. These carrots can be planted twice, once in spring and the other time in the fall. I really like carrots and this variety is new to me so I am sitting at the edge of my seat wondering what they will taste like.I highly recommend these seeds for the dual season planting.

Great seeds. Organo has always delivered with their seeds in my experience. I have used their seed variety packs before without issues and this is no different. Seeds sprouted and are growing well. Good price. No issues or complaints.
