A fantastic back side

This Allium cepa "Walla Walla" is labeled as non-GMO, heirloom, and sourced in USA. This is a nice little packet, recognizing that quality seed is not cheap anymore based on the labor and handling involved to produce it. The summary of data on the back of this packet is excellent; first-rate and well-presented. For all that it includes, it is probably the best I have ever seen in gardening guidance in such a small space. I especially appreciated the "germination tip" of a soaking of the seed for 12 to 18 hours. The photo shows them happily soaking. Onions are known to be "most frequently" biennial or perennial, so it should be an interesting ongoing home experiment to see what you can do either by leaving the roots in the ground (or pot) or placing them back after trimming for eating.

Great value for number of seeds

Initial review is based on condition that the seeds arrived in. I'll updated once I can confirm the germination rate. As far as packaging and amount of seeds, I was at first skeptical that there were (according to the packaging) approx 275 seeds in the 1g provided. But I counted out 10 seeds and sort of compared them to the larger pile (see image for reference). I think it's probably a fair approximation, although possibly high, especially when the majority of the seeds are on the larger side and therefore heavier. The seed quality is excellent and superior to some of the well-known brands I've gotten from the store. I bought some Walla Walla seeds last year from a big box store. There were literally only 10 seeds in the bag for $2.99 and the germination rate was abysmal with only 4 out of 10 germinating. I am thrilled with the number of seeds for the price. Assuming the germination rate is at least 50%, this is an exceptional value compared to purchasing in-store.

Great customer service

It's too early to know how the seeds will grow, but customer service of Organo Republic was great. My package arrived slightly open and all but a few seeds remained. Organo was prompt, polite, and helpful in sending a replacement even though the cost was only a few bucks. I'm sure from now on all seed packages will be properly sealed. This is how a customer services should work!

Time will tell but look fine

I have not been too successful with onions in the past. I will be starting these in a snail wrap. Hoping it helps. The seeds look fine.

Excellent!

These long day seeds are perfect for new england. They require about 14-16 hours of sunlight per day but are more hearty. Planted a couple in the house to see the germination rate and they all sprouted, unfortunately these wont be good for sowing but next year they will be perfect. Great germination, cant wait to taste them!

Almost all have sprouted.

These onion seeds were fast to sprout. They are growing well. I have had no issues. You get a lot of seeds for the price. I will be purchasing from this company next year. I like the quality of the seeds. I would recommend it.

Good Growth

These seeds gave quick, efficient germination and were doing a nice job of growing until the bed they were in decided to stop draining and flood out, causing everything to die. Will give them another shot and update if I find any problems.

Most seeds germanated and translplanted to my garden alive

I haven't had a harvest yet, but most of these onion seeds germanated and translplanted to my garden alive, which is most of the battle for me.

Can’t wait to plant

We normally buy the onion bulbs to plant but decided that we are going to try to plant our onions from seeds. We have not tried yet but I’m very excited to see what happens when we do. It comes with a lot.

already starting to germinate

These came late, not sure if that was an issue with the vendor or USPS, but the seeds germinated fast, and at a very solid rate (90%+)Seems a very good product otherwise but I took the star over shipping, these are going to be a month short on their growing season now which is unfortunate but they are certainly doing their thing....

Great healthy seeds that are germinating but a bit spendy.

These are healthy-looking seeds but the price is a little much for what you get. These are onions, not some specialty plant. I would compare and shop around before paying this amount of money for onion seeds, even if they are heirloom, non-GMO, and made in the USA.

Tons of seeds.

Just got everything planted, but all the seeds seemed in good shape. Lots of seeds for weekly seeding. Will post more as growth develops.

Walla Walla’s are the best! (In my humble opinion)

Easy to sprout and transplant into the garden. Or they can be directly seeded and thinned to a 3-4” spacing. Germination was good, but I have no idea of percentage…all I can say is that a lot of sprouts came up! I weighed the seeds and they came to just over the claimed 1g. I would have counted them, but I’m not that bored.Walla Walla onions need a low sulfur soil if they’re going to retain their sweetness. If you’ve been acidifying your planting area for other plants, plant these elsewhere.

Onions are a Must!

I am never without onions in my pantry. I cook with them in just about everything. It may be because I lived in Puerto Rico from the time I was two until I was 5. Part of that time, we lived off the Air Force Base and I ate with our landlord and his granddaughter much of the time! I love onions and garlic!! I normally plant only tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers in my deck garden, but this year I decided to add some onions so I ordered these Onion Walla Walla Seeds Pack 1G - Over 275 Non-GMO Heirloom Onion Seeds. I have planted them and they have sprouted. If I have any problems with them, I'll update this review. For now, however, I do recommend them as they are resonably priced seeds and you get a lot of them!!

Organo Republic Store Onion Walla Walla Seeds

This review is for Organo Republic Store Onion Walla Walla Seeds Pack 1G - Over 275 Non-GMO Heirloom Onion Seeds for Planting Vegetables in Individual Seed Packet, Vegetable Seeds for Planting Home Garden Indoor & Outdoor Gardening. As a novice gardener I'm excited to be trying onions. I like the packaging as it's sturdy, much sturdier than the packs of other seeds I got at a local big box store. I received them too late to try planting them this year, but I will update when I try them.

seeds germinated, looks like they'll make a nice crop of onions

There's two individual packs, so you don't have to use all of them at once. After soaking for 24 hours in water, the seeds swelled, and after a week they popped up from the soil. Good seeds.

M
Monty
Little bit pricey, but they're growing

For a pack of seeds, at $6 it's a little bit pricey, though there are a lot of seeds in the pack and it's a Heirloom variety. They're growing- I'll update after the harvest.

Great seeds

I have no doubt these will germinate just as the other thousands of seeds I've ordered and germinated from Organo Republic. Great quality seeds.

Less expensive than from specialty seed catalogs, and lots of them too

I’ve been filling in gaps in my square-foot gardening beds with these Walla-Walla onion seeds since there are so many of them in the packet. I stick with only non-GMO heirloom varieties and really appreciate finding a new source of far more affordable seeds than I’ve used before. They are packaged well, produced domestically here in the USA, and arrived in almost no time at all.

S

Easy to plant

I sowed some of these seeds the other day and I’m looking forward to see how they germinate. I will update with results. The directions are easy to follow and the seed seems to be of quality. The envelope was sealed well and there is a good amount of seeds. They seem a little expensive but are comparable with name brand seeds. I recommend these based on you get what’s advertised but I’m optimistic on a good harvest.

Grow Big, Sweet Onions from Heirloom, Non-GMO Walla Walla Seeds

Walla Walla is the legendary sweet onion, famous for its size and mild, juicy flavor. Our heirloom Walla Walla onion seeds (Allium cepa) grow into large, round, pale bulbs so sweet and mild you can almost eat them like an apple. A classic long-day onion for northern gardens, it is a rewarding, impressive crop for anyone who loves a gentle, sweet onion.

Who it's for

Perfect for northern gardeners and sweet-onion lovers. Walla Walla is a long-day onion, so it bulbs best in the longer summer days of the north, and its exceptional mildness makes it a favorite for fresh eating. Growing your own giant sweet onions is a genuine treat.

How & when to plant

Start Walla Walla seeds indoors 8 to 10 weeks before your last frost, or sow in late summer to overwinter in mild-winter areas. Plant the seeds about a quarter to half an inch deep; they germinate in about 7 to 10 days. Thin or transplant seedlings to about 3 to 4 inches apart in full sun, in rich, loose soil.

Growing & care

Sweet onions need steady moisture and a clean, weed-free bed to size up well. Water consistently as the bulbs swell, feed them early, and taper off watering as the tops begin to fall near harvest. As a long-day type, Walla Walla needs the long summer days of northern latitudes to bulb properly.

Harvest

Harvest when most of the tops have bent over and started to dry, usually around 110 to 125 days. Lift the big bulbs gently and cure them in a warm, airy, shaded place. Sweet onions like Walla Walla do not store long, so enjoy them fresh over the weeks after harvest.

Benefits & uses

Walla Walla onions are all about sweet, mild flavor. Slice them raw into salads, sandwiches, and burgers, where their gentleness shines, or grill, roast, and caramelize them until meltingly sweet. They make wonderful onion rings and a superb base for savory dishes.

Why gardeners grow our onion seed

Our Walla Walla onion seed is heirloom, non-GMO, and untreated, chosen for strong germination and packed fresh by a licensed seed dealer based in the USA. Grow big, sweet onions and save seed from your best plants. Choose the pack size that fits your garden and get sowing.
