Fordhook Giant Swiss Chard Seeds – Non-GMO Heirloom

I attempted to plant these this 2024 season but must have been a little too late as nothing sprouted (planted directly outside in the willamette valley in summer). I will try these again next year. The seeds look to be good quality and they should grow well in this climate.

I’ve planted these seeds in my backyard and so far they are sprouting up. Since the weather is warm now, I just planted them directly in the ground outside, rather than starting them indoors. I will update my review with more photos as they grow. They are heirloom seeds, and also non-gmo, from the USA, and tested for a high germination rate. There are a generous amount of seeds in the packet: supposed to be 200. I didn’t count them one by one, but it looks correct. I just have a few of them in my hand in the photo to show their size and what they look like.

I tried to grow some swiss chard a few months ago, but rabbits snuck into the back yard and leveled every small plant down to the nub! They left all the tomatoes, jalapenos and cilantro alone. This time, when I start a fall garden, I plan to do so in a bunch of pots that I can put up on tables so the bunnies can’t eat the swiss chard. I like the information on the back of the package, showing color-coded heat zones of the United States. I like that it shows you how far apart to plant the seeds and how far down to plant them. I don’t usually see illustrations showing this. Just words. There claim to be 200 seeds, and I poured them out into my hand—it could very well be that many! I am very pleased with this package of seeds, and I recommend them.

Planted in Michigan greenhouse using heat mats 3/13. Germinated between 3/17 and 3/28. Greenhouse temperatures ranged between the 40s and 90s.

I planted these in early summer and had a good harvest of Kale. Germination rate was very high. I dried and seasoned them and they were delicious!

The product title says "Over 200" seeds and the packet says "approx 200 seeds", so I counted and I received 240 seeds. So far all the ones I have planted in my hydroponic garden have sprouted. The information of the back of the seed packet is helpful for knowing where and when to plant. I wish the seed packet was somehow resealable. I am so excited to grow lots of Swiss chard!

I didn't realize how much I love swiss chard! These seeds germinated quickly and produced big leafy plants that you can harvest pretty quickly - just harvest the outer leaves that are ready, a couple from each plant each time, and they keept producing all summer and fall. The leaves are big - these are for green leaves. They are SO tasty sauteed with a little olive oil and garlic and a sprinkle of crushed pepper. Very tender. Plant packet is sturdy and pretty, but also has lots of information on it, with a scan code for additional information on their website.

They all germinated!

This pack comes with a ton of seeds, more than I need which is great because I can continue planting these throughout the year. Once I planted them, they sprouted within a few days and the end product grew extremely well and tasted amazing! I still have plenty of seeds to plant this inside and continue having chard over winter.

There're just so many seeds!They sprout in a day. They are fast, perfect for micro greens and veggies garden.I'm in AZ so I cannot continue to grow right now however they sprouted fast and gave me micro greens. :)Well known seed brand and worth every penny! Way cheaper than local stores too!

These Organo Republic swiss chard seeds are fantastic! You receive A LOT of them in along with instructions for growing. I appreciate that these are non-GMO and sourced from the US, and can pretty much grow year round (indoors or outdoors). My husband started them inside and they had a great germination rate. He's transferred the plants outdoors where they have produced beautiful large leaves. The next step was on me, to produce a delicious meal from them and it was a success! This was our first time growing and cooking with swiss chard, but not our last.

I am not sure if it was a seed problem or a soil moisture problem, but these seeds have taken a really long time to germinate. I have grown swiss chard before, and I don't recall them taking so long. I am going to try again, as I am not sure if some of my seeds didn't germinate at all, or if they are just late like the others, but a lot did not come up yet. Hopefully they will do a bit better with germination once the weather cools down some and the soil doesn't dry out as quickly.

I have had great germinations rates with the seeds I started - fortunately for me, even though it's late in the season this is a good time to start Swiss Chard here. I've never actually had swiss Chard before and I was happy to be able to order these seeds as I have read that it's very nutritious.

I started my seeds in my hydroponic garden, and so far, then have sprouted within three days! They are growing quickly and seem healthy. The packaging suggests soaking them first before planting which may be a good idea if you're planting them in ground or pots. Since the hydroponic garden kind of soaks them anyway, I didn't do anything before dropping them into the planting pods. Happy so far and ready to get my chard on!

Started these inside and will likely grow them in my kitchen garden. They are off to a good start.

The usual recommendation for growing Swiss Chard is to plant in the early spring a few weeks before the last frost date, then harvest and plant seeds again about 40 days before the first fall frost date. By first thoroughly wetting our raised bed before adding the seeds, using a soaker hose in the early morning when there’s been no rain, and using a trellis with a shade cloth, these have germinated well and the seedlings look strong and healthy. Organo Republic provides high-quality Non-GMO USA-produced seeds, and I’m very glad Amazon offers their seed packs. I will be ordering more from them.

I've only germinated them indoors, as there's a heat wave and hurricanes outside which would bake or flatten any small plant. But, I did achieve 100% germination! I think I will just keep them indoors, as they are doing much better under my LED grow lights than I thought they would. I have a 30W and a 45W light covering the same area, and this seems more than sufficient. They're still climbing quickly!These seeds get my recommendation!

I'm usually not a big fan of Swiss Chard, but this heirloom seed looked too good. The other swiss chard seeds that I have are rainbow with different colored stems. These look almost like box choy from the photos.I'm only starting a handful of these to see how it grows and tastes. I'll have to make more space in the garden for it next year if it's good.I haven't had this long enough to comment on how well it tastes. The seeds I sprouted are still tiny seedlings, so can't say much more other than that it has pretty good germination: 3 out of 5 seeds sprouted.
