🌸 How to Grow Snapdragon
Colorful, upright annuals with dragon-shaped blooms — perfect for borders, bouquets, and pollinator gardens.
🌱 Sowing & Germination
- Start Indoors: Begin 8–10 weeks before the last frost date
- Surface sow: Do not cover seeds — they need light to germinate
- Germination time: 7–14 days at 65–70°F
- Transplanting: Harden off seedlings and plant outdoors after frost, spacing 6–12 inches apart
- Direct Sowing: Possible in cool climates, but indoor start is preferred for early blooms
☀️ Light & Growing
- Thrives in full sun (6+ hours) but tolerates light afternoon shade
- Performs best in cool weather; ideal for spring and fall displays
- Grows 12–36 inches tall, depending on variety
- Provide support for taller types to prevent flopping
💧 Watering & Soil
- Water regularly to keep soil evenly moist, especially during dry spells
- Prefers rich, well-drained soil with good organic matter
- Mulch around base to retain moisture and suppress weeds
- Avoid overhead watering to reduce disease risk
🌼 Blooming & Maintenance
- Blooms in spring to early summer; may rebloom in fall
- Deadhead regularly to promote extended flowering
- Cut stems frequently for bouquets to encourage new blooms
- Pinch young seedlings to promote bushier growth
