Cosmos
6 Easy Steps to Grow Cosmos
-
Choose a Season – Plant after last frost in spring when soil has warmed to 65–70 °F (18–21 °C). Cosmos thrive in summer heat and bloom into fall.
-
Choose the Right Spot – Full sun is ideal. Prefers average, well-drained soil; overly rich soil can reduce blooms.
-
Prepare the Soil – Remove weeds and loosen the soil. Avoid adding too much fertilizer; cosmos do best in moderately fertile soil.
-
Broadcast the Seeds – Sow seeds evenly and thinly.
Note: 1 oz covers ~250 sq.ft. for optimal growth.
-
Create the Right Seeds-to-Soil Contact – Lightly rake or press seeds into the soil, covering with ¼" (0.6 cm) of soil.
-
Water the Area – Keep soil lightly moist until germination (7–10 days). Once established, cosmos are drought-tolerant but bloom more with occasional watering.
