How to Use Mycorrhizal Fungi Granules

Mycorrhizal Fungi Granules are an easy-to-apply soil inoculant made to support strong root development, better nutrient access, and healthier plant growth from the ground up.

These beneficial fungi work directly with plant roots. Once the roots begin growing through the treated soil, the fungi help create a more active root zone and support the plant as it develops. This is especially useful when starting seeds, planting seedlings, moving young plants into larger containers, or refreshing used growing media for a new season.

What Are Mycorrhizal Fungi?

Mycorrhizal fungi are beneficial soil fungi that form a natural relationship with plant roots. In simple terms, the roots provide a home for the fungi, and the fungi help extend the plant’s reach into the surrounding soil.

This can help plants access nutrients and moisture more efficiently, especially when the granules are placed close to the roots during planting or transplanting. For best results, mycorrhizal fungi should be applied early, while roots are actively growing.

Best Uses

  • Starting seeds in containers or seed trays
  • Planting clones and young seedlings
  • Transplanting into pots, raised beds, or garden soil
  • Refreshing reused soil before a new growing cycle
  • Supporting vegetables, fruits, herbs, flowers, and lawns

How to Apply for Seeds, Clones, and Seedlings

Use this method when starting seeds or planting young seedlings into fresh growing media.

  • 1. Prepare the Growing Medium
Fill your container, seed tray, or starter pot with your preferred growing media. The media should be lightly moist, but not soggy.
  • 2. Mix Granules Into the Soil
Mix the granules evenly into the growing media before planting. Try to spread them through the area where new roots will develop.
  • 3. Plant Seeds or Seedlings
Plant your seeds, clones, or seedlings as usual. The goal is to keep the granules close to the future root zone.
  • 4. Water Thoroughly
After planting, water well to help settle the soil around the roots and granules. Keep the soil evenly moist while the plant gets established.

Application Rates for Seeds, Clones, and Seedlings

  • 1 pint container: Use 1 tsp, about 5 g
  • 1 quart container: Use 2 tsp, about 10 g
  • 1.5 gallon container: Use 1/4 cup, about 50 g

How to Apply When Transplanting

This method is best when moving a plant into a larger container, raised bed, or garden space.

  • 1. Prepare the Planting Hole
Make a planting hole large enough for the plant’s root ball.
  • 2. Apply Granules Near the Roots
Add the granules directly into the planting hole or around the root zone. Mycorrhizal fungi work best when they are placed where roots can make contact with them.
  • 3. Place the Plant
Set the plant into the hole and cover the roots with soil.
  • 4. Water Well
Water thoroughly after transplanting to help reduce transplant stress and settle the soil around the roots.

Application Rates for Transplanting

  • 1 gallon container: Use 1 tsp, about 5 g
  • 3 gallon container: Use 1 tbsp, about 13 g
  • 7 gallon container: Use 2 tbsp, about 26 g

When to Reapply

  • Apply at the start of each new growing cycle.
  • Reapply when transplanting into a larger container.
  • Use again when planting in reused soil to help refresh the root zone.
  • Add to new growing media because many commercial mixes contain little natural microbial life.
  • For best results, apply as early as possible so young roots can grow into the treated area.

Package Size Guide

  • 4 oz package: Over 100,000 propagules per pack and treats up to 20 plants.
  • 8 oz package: Over 200,000 propagules per pack and treats up to 45 plants.
  • 1 lb package: Over 400,000 propagules per pack and treats up to 90 plants.

Propagule counts are based on minimum guaranteed values at the time of manufacture. Application rates are general guidelines, and results may vary depending on the plant, soil, watering, and growing environment.

Product Composition

Contains beneficial substances:

  • Rhizophagus irregularis: 700 propagules/g
  • Funneliformis mosseae: 200 propagules/g

Growing Tips

  • Place granules close to the root zone. Mycorrhizal fungi work best when roots can make direct contact with them.
  • Use during planting or transplanting rather than sprinkling only on the soil surface after the plant is already established.
  • Do not overwater. Even moisture is helpful, but soggy soil can make it harder for roots to grow well.
  • Use with good-quality soil or potting mix for the best overall plant performance.
  • Reapply when moving plants into larger containers so new root tips can grow into treated soil.
  • Results can vary by plant type and growing conditions. Mycorrhizal fungi support root health, but they are not a replacement for proper light, watering, nutrients, and soil care.

Storage and Safety

  • Store in a cool, dry, dark place.
  • Recommended storage temperature: 5-25°C or 40-77°F.
  • Do not freeze.
  • Keep the container tightly closed after use.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • For plant and soil application only.

Important Note

This product is not a pesticide and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any plant disease. It is a soil and root support product designed to help create a healthier growing environment for plants.
